From sailors to pop icons – men with earrings are timeless. Yet it remains an exciting choice for many men. Is it okay if you are over 30? Does it not look too flashy, too feminine, too youthful?
In this blog I will take you through the history and revival of the male earring. And show you how style, craftsmanship and character come together in a small but powerful detail.

Once Very Ordinary
Men with earrings are anything but a modern invention. Centuries ago, sailors wore a gold earring as a sign of courage and adventure.
In fishing villages like Urk, this is still visible today: young men there still proudly wear a gold earring, often with a ship engraved in it. It is more than a piece of jewelry – it is a sign of connection with their roots and life at sea.
In other cultures too, the earring was a male symbol – from kings in the East to warriors in Africa. It was only in the 20th century that the image changed, and the male earring became more often associated with subcultures or a rebellious image.
The Return of the Male Earring
Today we see more and more men wearing earrings. From young fathers with a subtle stud to tough thirty-somethings with a silver ring. The boundaries are blurring – and thank goodness for that. Self-expression is allowed.
A comment on Reddit summed up the sentiment well:
“I like those little black earrings. Or piercings. But unfortunately there isn't much variety for men, and it can quickly look too toky or feminine.”
And that is exactly where the problem lies. Many men want something stylish, but the choice is often limited to plastic studs, excessive bling or generic jewelry that you see in every shopping mall.

From Trend to Style Choice
An earring doesn't have to be a statement - it can also simply be a part of your style. A modest silver ring, a stud with a dark gemstone or a crafted design with a subtle story.
I believe that jewelry for men – just like for women – should emphasize character. Not flashy, but powerful through simplicity and meaning.
Craft for Him
My men's line consists of a wide range of earrings - from stylish silver studs with gemstones to edgier hook earrings with a unique twist. Many of my designs are 'one of a kind' and appeal to men who want that little bit more: character, craftsmanship and something you won't find on every street corner.

Many earrings also have matching necklaces available, often with the same gemstone or in a matching design. I like to work in sets, so that your piece of jewelry not only stands alone, but also forms a whole with what else you wear.
Whether you go for subtle or striking : in my studio we think together about what suits you. No standard mass work, but jewelry with a personal story.
It's not about trends, but about jewelry that really suits you – and perhaps lasts a lifetime.
Dare to Wear What Suits You
Men in earrings are back from never really gone. But the time is ripe for more variety – more style, more craftsmanship, more character. Away from mass production and back to jewelry with meaning.
Are you ready for a piece of jewelry that really suits you? Or are you looking for an earring that is just a little bit different from the rest? You are welcome in my studio in Enkhuizen . I would be happy to think along with you.
