What is the difference between a jeweler and a jewelry workshop?
Anyone looking for a piece of jewelry can go to a jeweler or to a studio.
Both provide jewelry, but the process and when you go differ.
When do you go to a jeweler?
A jeweler is suitable if you:
- want to take a piece of jewelry with you right away
- want to compare many models
- are looking for a brand or specific style
- must choose quickly
You choose from existing collections.
When do you go to a studio?
A studio is a better fit if you realise that you are not just looking for a piece of jewellery, but something that suits you.
For example, when you:
- finds a particular stone important (birthstone, memory, symbolism)
- have your own idea that you don't see reflected anywhere
- want to create something together that connects you (mother-daughter, partners, sisters)
- want to incorporate an existing piece of jewelry into something new
- you're looking for something that you'll still enjoy wearing later
In a studio, you don't choose from what's already there — the piece of jewelry is created from your story.
The difference in process
Jeweler: choose → pay → take away
Workshop: discuss → propose → decide → make
Both make sense, but for a different kind of question.
The difference in price structure
At a jeweler, the price consists of several components: the jewelry has already been produced, purchased, stored and is sold as part of a collection or brand.
In a studio, the jewelry piece only comes into being after the consultation. Therefore, the price is primarily based on the materials and the time required to make it.
That is why prices between a jeweler and a studio cannot be compared one-on-one.
When do you often have doubts?
Many people come to a studio after having visited shops where nothing really “felt right”.
Not because there was too little choice, but because they weren't actually looking for a model — they were looking for recognition.
At that point, the question shifts from " which do I like?" to "which suits me?"
Finally
Not sure yet which route suits you?
If you want to choose quickly from existing models, a jeweler makes sense.
But if you notice that you keep comparing without making a decision, or that you miss a certain feeling or idea, it helps to look together at what can arise.
A conversation does not oblige you to do anything, but often makes clear why you could not yet make a choice.
